Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute is one of the top academic cancer centers in China. It is devoted to offering the best of evidence-based and patient-centered medical care, conducting high-level basic and translational researches, and providing high-quality basic medical teaching and specialization training programs.

Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute started operating in 1976. With four decades of unwavering commitment to patient safety and quality care, it has grown from a research institute with only 100 beds to a 790-bed comprehensive cancer center with nearly 1,500 health care professionals working in 30 clinical departments, 13 paramedical departments, and 10 laboratories.

Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute is one of the most versatile cancer centers in China, using surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and interventional therapy, etc. to treat a wide range of tumors, especially gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancer, melanoma, lymphoma, liver cancer and lung cancer. It advocates multidisciplinary cooperation, integrating all available expertise and resources to offer patients the best tailored comprehensive therapies possible. The hospital treats over 500,000 outpatients and 47,000 inpatients per year.

Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute has strong capacity in basic and clinical studies on cancer. Its research section was designated as the Key Laboratory of “Malignancy Pathogenesis and Translational Research” by the Ministry of Education in 2010. There are more than 140 talented researchers working in 10 basic laboratories equipped with the most advanced apparatus and up-to-date research technologies in cell biology, proteomics and genomics. Prominent progress has been achieved in researches on carcinogenesis, cancer prevention, biology, epidemiology and biotherapy relating to the most common cancers in China, especially gastric cancer and breast cancer. In the past five years, the laboratories have carried out over 360 basic research projects and 180 clinical trials, including around 80 international multicenter trials. More than 1500 articles were published and 20 patents obtained.

Each year, Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute offers postgraduate and postdoctoral training programs in oncology, biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology, imaging and nuclear medicine, epidemiology and biostatistics, etc. for more than 200 postgraduates and post-doctors, and trains over 30 resident doctors. It is also the base of over 10 national or municipal continuing education programs, and receives more than 500 academic visits, study tours and academic exchanges every year.
